Bonnie J. Smith, PhD, MSW, LISW-CP

(she/they)

People often turn to therapy when they are feeling stuck or are facing challenging decisions. My approach is to foster meaningful therapeutic connections where people can truly be themselves and feel at ease expressing their emotions, thoughts, and experiences. As a member of the LGBTQ community, I frequently work with clients who are also part of the community or are supportive allies.

I have experience working with people navigating anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, life-changing events, and chronic illness, as well as queer issues such as coming out, gender identity, and transitioning.

Before I was a clinical social worker, I worked as a college professor for over 20 years. I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Furman University, a MSW (Master of Social Work) degree from the University of South Carolina, and a PhD in Educational Leadership from Clemson University.

My non-work joy comes from making pottery, spending time with family and friends, singing show tunes, and going on adventures with my beautiful wife.
